What did I get myself into??

So, semester one is down and we're two weeks into the 2nd semester. Who knew teaching 3rd grade could be so overwhelming??!! I've woken up with hives, and stressed myself to the point where I now think my stomach has turned backwards.

I thought teaching was going to be wonderful, exciting, and self fulfilling...but so far its been a humoungus headache!! I'm not saying I don't love my job and the kids, because that is the best part of it, it's everything else having to do with teaching...benchmarks, test, more test...TESTS!!!

It's like, no matter what I teach or how I teach it...they don't get it, it floats right over their heads. If it weren't for the few 3,4 students who get the good grades and use all the strategies...I don't know what I'd do.

Props to all you teachers who have stayed in so long...HOW DO YOU KEEP SANE!!!!

  1. I've been teaching a long long time, and I've explored a lot of different schools of thought in education.
My suggestion for hanging on and staying sane is to focus on the learning instead of on the teaching. Your kids are the best part of the job, to be sure, so let them drive what you do. When your primary concern is who they are and what they need in order to learn the material, the testing becomes the way you design and improve your teaching.
    It's about them.
    Hang in there.
